The Inner and Wider Faculty
The Inner and Wider Faculty is responsible for making decisions on fundamental matters which concern the Faculty as a whole and for which the Dean or another instance is not determined. This primarily includes academic matters and finances, appointments as well as the awarding of doctorates and honorary doctorates where the Wider Faculty (all university professors) make recommendations for the Inner Faculty.

The Structural Advisory Committee of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities has the function of advising the Faculty on fundamental questions regarding structural development.

Academic Advisory Committee
The Academic Advisory Committee advises the Office of the Dean and the Inner Faculty on academic reform, evalution of study and teaching as well as on amendments to examination regulations. The Academic Advisory Committee convenes once a semester.

Standing Faculty Committees
The Inner Faculty who have an advisory function is formed to prepare decisions. Both standing Committees – Structural Committees and the Committee for Teaching, Studies and Academic Reform – convene during the semester one to two weeks before faculty sittings so that committee recommendations that have the character of proposals can be negotiated. The following committees are convened where necessary.

The Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Colognesees it as its responsibility to provide its students with excellent and attractive academic degree programs. Jury for the Advancement of Junior Academics
The scope of duties of the jury includes the evaluation and forwarding of applications to foundations and institutions, and the awarding of prizes to advance junior academics, e.g. Faculty Prizes for excellent dissertations and the Offermann-Hergarten Foundation prize. The jury is also involved in the processing of applications to the RheinEnergie-Stiftung.
