Jenny Gusyk Prize Winners of Faculty of Arts and Humanities
SARA TEWELDE-NEGASSI - "YOUNG SCIENTIST AWARD" 2018
The Jenny Gusyk Preis "Young Scientists Award" 2018 endowed with €1,000 went to Sara Tewelde-Negassi of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities for her outstanding thesis in Gender & Queer Studies - "The Motif of the Machine-Woman Reconsidered: Towards a Female Cyborg in Eve of Destruction" (1991), "Ex_Machina" (2015) and "Her" (2013). Through the cinematic processing of her work, Sara Tewelde Negassi looks into fictional cinematic visions of our future. Her well-founded analysis illustrates how difficult it is to detach oneself from traditional images and stereotypes, especially with regard to the gender question, and points out possibilities of "alternative" gender concepts and gender relations.
PROF. DR. KIRSTEN SCHINDLER, SABRINA SCHUHMACHER & LENA MERTENS - "INNOVATION AWARD" 2018
The Jenny Gusyk Preis "Innovation Award" 2018 endowed with €3,000 went to Gender Equality Officer of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities Prof. Dr. Kirsten Schindler und her staff members Sabrina Schumacher and Lena Mertens for the introduction of a "Family Day at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities". The innovative measure implemented by the prize-winners in a sustainable manner focused on the topic of "compatibility of family and work/studies" and strengthened, connected and supported people with family responsibilities, their children and the participating institutes and institutions.
DR. MARJA JÄRVENTAUSTA & PROF. DR. STEPHAN MICHAEL SCHRÖDER - "FAMILY-FAMILY MANAGEMENT" 2017
The Jenny Gusyk Preis "Family Friendly Leadership" 2017 endowed with €1,000 went to Professor Marja Järventausta & Professor Stephan Michael Schröder of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities for improving the compatibility of family-friendly (knowledge) culture and care work and profession, during parental leave, studies and academic career.
FREDERIC RUKES - "YOUNG SCIENTIST AWARD" 2017
Frederic Rukes received the Jenny Gusyk "Young Scientists Award" 2017 endowed with €1,000 for his thesis entitled "Strangeways, Here We Come: Queer Discourse and the Disruption of Normativity in Morrissey and the Smiths."
MAX DERICHSWEILER - "YOUNG SCIENTIST AWARD" 2015
Max Derichsweiler, from the Department of Protestant Theology of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities received the Jenny Gusyk "Young Scientist Award" 2015 endowed with €1,000 for an excellent thesis in Gender or Queer Studies entitled “Gleichgeschlechtliche Partnerschaften und Familien in ethischer und evangelischer Perspektive (Same-sex Partnerships and Families in ethical and Protestant Perspective)”.
PROF. DR. KARL-JOACHIM HÖLKESKAMP - "FAMILY-FAMILY MANAGEMENT" 2015
The Jenny Gusyk Preis "Family Friendly Leadership" 2017 endowed with €1,000 went to Prof. Dr. Karl-Joachim Hölkeskamp, Department of History, Ancient History of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, at the suggestion of his team, as a manager who actively advocates improvements in the compatibility of family and care work and career and who, by ensuring a good care situation and a great deal of flexibility, enables young women scientists to concentrate on their academic work and make good progress.
PROF. DR. CORNELIA RICHTER - "FAMILY-FAMILY MANAGEMENT" 2014
The Jenny Gusyk Prize for "Family Friendly Leadership" 2014 endowed with € 1,000 was awarded to Prof. Dr. Cornelia Richter from the Department of Protestant Theology of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities for being a leader who has actively achieved improvements in the balancing of family or care and career and who introduced standards for the consideration of family obligations with regard to appointments and work plans.
