Course description
The degree programme is focused on the history and theory of German-language literature in the context of the various media forms of presentation of literature, its reference to new media technologies and the diverse practical forms of literary production and reception. With this broad perspective, the study programme deals with media aesthetics of both older and newer German literature on the one hand, and on the other hand it makes clear how directly aesthetic phenomena and theories are interrelated with the material foundations of cultural communication. In this way, students gain a historically broad and media-theoretically honed overview of literary studies as well as knowledge of various writing and publication practices.

The degree programme qualifies students both for a doctorate and for entry into non-university professions in which knowledge of the media functions of textual products is of current importance: for example, for professions in cultural and educational institutions, in media institutions, in publishing or librarianship, in brand communication, political communication or in the field of institutional PR and public relations.
