Course description
Catholic theology at the university uses an academic approach to study questions and phenomena of belief and religion, such as
- How can we talk about God in a secular world?
- What is Christian about the “Christian West”?
- Is the Bible true?
- Should we be allowed to do everything that we able to do?
- Why are there different churches?
Theology is split into four areas: biblical, historical, systematic and practical theology. These areas are also subdivided into different fields of study, such as the Old Testament, modern church history, dogmatics, religious philosophy, liturgical studies, religious education, etc. These fields of study examine a diverse range of very different aspects of religious life both in the past and present. A common feature of all these approaches is that they are obligated to uphold the reasonable responsibility of the Christian faith. The lines of reasoning are developed in close cooperation with and through critical examination of many other humanistic disciplines.
A degree in theology will provide you with insights into the tenets and history of Christianity. You will learn the justifications and argumentation structures for responding to questions about faith and religion in relation to the discourse of the 21st century.
