On the basis of a previous bachelor’s degree in English studies or a comparable bachelor’s degree, the master’s degree in English studies provides an in-depth academic and research-oriented education in the field of English linguistics and in the field of anglophone literature and cultures.

Language proficiency and other requirements
Students must demonstrate Latin proficiency comparable to the intermediate Latin certificate (Kleines Latinum) or proficiency in another foreign language at level A2 (CEFR) to register for their master thesis. The English Studies course at the University of Cologne gives you an excellent academic and research-oriented education in English linguistics and anglophone literature and culture. You will become capable of independently positioning yourself within research.
The cultural theory elements of the degree programme enable you to collaborate with cultural studies experts from other disciplines beyond your own field of expertise in a constructive and targeted manner.
